Lawn Mower Racing |
| |
The British Lawn Mower Racing Association was founded in 1973 at the Cricketers Arms in Wisborough Green, West Sussex. The brainchild was Jim Gavin, an Irishman, who had travelled the world racing cars. He was disillusioned with the rising costs of motorsport and brought locals together to create a cheap alternative.
The popularity in the sport has grown throughout the years attracting many members from all over the country, holding meetings at Country Shows, Fayres and Steam Rallies. Sir Stirling Moss and Derek Bell have competed at some of these meetings, Moss winning the British Grand Prix and 12-Hour Race, Bell winning the 12-Hour Race twice! Oliver Reed regularly entered a team and features in the Guinness Book of Records with the fastest mower over a set distance and the longest distance travelled in 12 hours.
Why not support your local team and have a truly memorable day out! The Association maintains its non-profit making ethic so any profit raised during the events will be donated to charities and good causes!
